The industrial air compressors are powerful piston engines with tank of air. Its task is to store compressed air and to inflate tires, paint, wash with several detergents (water, gasoline, diesel, …), remove dust and dirt from the objects, … . The tank of industrial air compressor is definitely the first thing to be taken into consideration for the purchase, in fact, the greater the capacity, the greater the versatility of the compressor.
The characteristics of each power tool, it appears on the air consumption in “liters per minute” or “liters per second,” and this is a key parameter if you intend to use, for example, a normal pneumatic drill that can reach also consume 500 liters per minute.
To give a better idea, one must imagine that the air required by a pneumatic tool and as the energy required by a battery (rechargeable): If the availability of energy is sufficient to cover the use of the tool (until the next charging), the problem will not exist.
This does not mean that if we use a pneumatic drill, there should be absolutely a compressor 500 l: we must consider how long we plan to operate the drill after each use. The economic and compressors use a small piston only, others use 2 or 3 in one line (parallel side by side) or “V”.
In industrial air compressors things can change, as there are compressors “screw” using two spiral trees that draw air in one hand and push the other: in this way manage to be very quiet and compress air to values of 13 atmospheres. There are also industrial air compressors “special” they take one or two very large engines, but a small tank (50 liters) so you can have a continuous flow very high (as high as 500 liters / minute) and a small footprint. In this case, the container has mainly the task of providing ever-constant air, because it reduces what are the alternating strokes of the engines.
If we consider that a industrial air compressors are formed by a steel tank, an electric motor, by a group of pumping pistons and a few electrical gadgets, the one going to have a greater impact on the final cost is the motor-pump unit. For this reason, we often choose industrial air compressors that have a very large tank. So you have a low cost, an engine that consumes less energy than two or a very large and easy to recharge the tank, and, finally, adequate air supply until the engine will be able to fill the entire tank of air.
